4,000 More Grand Final Tickets For Members Of The Competing Clubs

In a major step for club members and supporters, the AFL has today advised the 18 AFL clubs that an extra 4,000 tickets for the Toyota AFL Grand Final will be made available to members of the two competing clubs.

The number of tickets available for purchase through event/corporate packages will fall by 4,000 to allow the revised match-day allocation numbers. The allocation of Grand Final tickets to MCC members, AFL/Medallion Club members and non-competing AFL clubs will remain unchanged.

Members of the two clubs who reach the Toyota AFL Grand Final will have access to 34,000 tickets, or 17,000 tickets per club.

AFL Chief Executive Gillon McLachlan said that the AFL wished to further acknowledge the record levels of AFL fans who support their clubs as members.

“We have frozen AFL General Admission prices for the last four years while ticket prices for the opening weeks of the finals had been frozen for three years,” Mr McLachlan said.

“In 2016, the AFL announced the introduction of a national $35 entry level ticket for weeks one and two of the AFL Finals Series and today’s decision regarding the allocation of Grand Final tickets seeks to recognise that club membership has grown significantly over recent years, largely due to the great work of our clubs.

“As part of our commitment to an agenda that serves the needs of fans, separate to other recent work around ensuring that food and drink prices at our games remain affordable, the AFL has sought to ensure that club members should have more opportunity to access Grand Final tickets.

“This decision is a win for the members of the competing clubs who reach the Grand Final to play off for the premiership.

“The allocations to MCC membership and AFL membership in Grand Final have not altered, as both MCC members and AFL members are fans of our game. MCC members contribute to the upkeep of the MCG as the premier stadium in our country while AFL members contribute directly to their club,” Mr. McLachlan said.

“The Toyota AFL Grand Final is Australia’s premier sporting event, and there is always huge demand for tickets. We have to balance a range of interests, including all clubs, the industry and our partners.

“The MCG is always full on Grand Final day with AFL supporters, but this will ensure a greater representation of the members from the two clubs competing for the premiership,” Mr McLachlan said.
