FREMANTLE has immediately parted ways with stoppage coordinator Mark Stone after the assistant coach indicated he would be leaving when his contract expired in October.

The Dockers released a statement declaring Stone would not seek to continue in his role and, as such, had mutually agreed to depart the club on Monday.

Stone joined Freo for the 2012 campaign after four years as stoppage coach at Sydney.

He previously worked in a similar role and as an opposition analyst at West Coast from 2003-07.

Stone held a variety of positions with the Dockers, including as midfield and forward line coach, after joining the club for the last year of Mark Harvey's tenure, before Ross Lyon was lured to Perth from St Kilda.

"The decision, which was by mutual agreement between Mark and the club, allows Mark more time to move into the next phase of his career," general manager of football operations Chris Bond said.

"From the club's perspective it provides us with an earlier opportunity to finalise our coaching structure and plans for 2018.

"Mark was an experienced assistant coach when he joined Fremantle for the 2012 season and has made a significant contribution to the progress and development of the club and our players during the past six seasons.

"We wish Mark all the very best in his future endeavours."

Stone was one of the longest-serving assistants among Lyon's current crop of coaching staff.

Defensive coach Michael Prior has been an assistant since the end of 2010 after joining Freo as skills coach three years earlier.

The Dockers turned to fresh coaching staff after their 2015 preliminary final loss to Hawthorn, bringing in Hawks premiership duo David Hale and Brent Guerra as they attempted to improve their kicking skills.

Current midfield coach Anthony Rock also joined the club alongside Hale and Guerra, as Brett Kirk and Simon Lloyd moved on.

Peter Sumich, who is being touted as a possible replacement for Rodney Eade at Gold Coast, left the club last August after serving five years as senior assistant and development coach.
