TOM Cutler will head back to Victoria as Brisbane and Essendon brokered a deal late on deadline day.

The Bombers received Cutler and pick 64 while the Lions walked away from the deal with pick 74 and a future third-round selection.

A raking long kick and a bit of speed is what Cutler will bring to Tullamarine, with the 24-year-old having played across the half-back line and the wing for the Lions.

The Bombers are eyeing a midfield role for the 192cm utility.

"We’re really pleased Tom will be joining our club next season and feel he's coming into his prime football years," Essendon head of recruiting Adrian Dodoro said.

"He is a wingman with a lot of upside, speed and endurance. He suits the way we play."
