SECOND-YEAR duo Chayce Jones and Ned McHenry have solidified their running dominance at Adelaide with a one-two finish in the Crows' 2km time trial on Saturday morning.

Jones pipped his fellow 2018 first-round draftee in an exciting show of what's to come for the next wave of Crows talent in 2020.

Both missed last year's November run – won by Wayne Milera – before being drafted, but managed top-three efforts in their first time trials last January.

Jones and McHenry finished ahead of defender Jake Kelly, ruckman Reilly O'Brien and half-back Brodie Smith in the top five around the Uni Loop in North Adelaide.

"We've run a couple of times together, it's probably about even now," Jones said of his battle with McHenry.

"It's good competition and it makes you better out of it all."

Arriving at 77kg last season, Jones played eight matches in his debut season mostly in attack.

"It's nice to keep (my time) relatively similar to last year while putting on a few kilos," he said.

"I definitely want to push myself to get in the (midfield) so it's all about putting your foot forward in the pre-season."

Jones and McHenry, who is yet to debut at AFL level, claimed the honours in the first of two groups, with midfielder Matt Crouch winning the second group.

Outgoing captain Taylor Walker was among a handful of senior players not required to run due to management of training loads.
