This weekend: Woodville-West Torrens v Adelaide at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval, Sunday August 9, 1.10pm ACST

With just eight senior appearances over the past two seasons Chayce Jones wants to get back into the AFL action and did himself no harm with a big performance in Adelaide’s seven-point loss to Woodville-West Torrens on Sunday.

Jones had team highs for disposals (27) and clearances (nine), also kicking one goal.

Lachie Sholl is another Crow getting limited opportunities at the higher level but was strong with 21 disposals and six marks, while Charlie Edwards also had 21 touches along with seven clearances and five tackles.

Potential gun Sid Draper registered 18 disposals and seven clearances, and rookie Indy Cotton finished with 14 touches.

Big man Toby Murray kicked two goals from seven marks and 12 disposals, Finnbar Maley kicked one while helping out in the ruck, and Tyler Welsh also slotted a major among his nine touches.

Mitch Hinge (10 disposals) and Mitch Marsh (eight) were other Senior players in action.

The Lions backed up a dominant night for the seniors with a 98-point drubbing of Southport, with Will McLachlan and Cody Curtin both booting three goals apiece from the forward line.

After being omitted following Brisbane's loss to Carlton, Bruce Reville bounced back with a consistent 19-disposal, six-mark, one-goal game - a stat line mirrored by Lincoln McCarthy.

Swingman Zane Zakostelsky showed promise in the ruck with 22 hitouts, a goal and 16 disposals, while James Tunstill led the team with eight clearances and Sam Marshall topped the Lions with 26 disposals.

Despite the big win, 18-year-old small forward Koby Evans was unable to hit the scoreboard from 10 touches, while Luke Lloyd was solid with nine disposals in a key defender role.

JACOB Weitering has made a successful comeback from injury in Carlton's VFL loss to St Kilda on Sunday.

A win would have seen Carlton end the round as high as sixth, but the loss saw them drop outside the top 10 with reigning premier Footscray to play in the final round next week.

Weitering got through the game as he comes back from a calf injury, with the 2024 All Australian finishing with a game-high 12 marks and 19 disposals.

Liam Reidy was dominant in the ruck with 21 hitouts, 29 disposals, 13 clearances and 10 inside-50s, repeatedly ripping the ball out of the contest and pumping the Blues forward.

Blues father-son prospect Cody Walker kicked a brilliant second-quarter goal and found the footy at will, with 28 disposals, eight marks and five tackles as he continues to impress ahead of the 2026 Telstra AFL Draft.

Flynn Young was lively up forward but wasteful in front of goal finishing with 1.4 from six shots at goal in an 11-disposal, four-mark game.

Ben Camporeale collected 25 disposals but came off clutching his left shoulder late in the contest, while Zac Williams (18 disposals) had the ball as many times as any Blue in the first half but suffered a throat injury late in the second term and did not return after the main break.

Adam Saad (24 touches, 0.2, eight intercepts) and Jordan Boyd (22 touches, six intercepts) had plenty of it in defence, Lucas Camporeale's 16-disposal day included his first VFL goal of the season, Ashton Moir (19 touches) roamed around the ground and Lachie Fogarty was kept quiet with 13 touches.

Flynn Riley played predominantly forward and finished with a goal on the end of a classy bit of delivery from Reidy, while fellow big man Hudson O'Keeffe's only kick of the day was a toe poke for his lone goal.

Jack Buller stood up to kick a four-goal haul as Collingwood suffered a thrilling one-point loss to Essendon on Saturday.

The forward played an important role as he kicked 4.1 from 16 disposals and seven marks at Windy Hill.

Jakob Ryan worked hard to gather 25 disposals and Tyan Prindable finished with 15 while also registering seven tackles.

Forward Mitch Podhajski booted one goal from his 11 disposals.

Amid a growing injury list at AFL level, there were fewer senior-listed Pies in action, with Harrison Coe (22 disposals, 18 hitouts and eight clearances) and Iliro Smit (seven, 10 hitouts) working hard in the ruck.

Jade Gresham led Essendon to a thrilling one-point win over Collingwood on Saturday.

Gresham inspired a comeback win with a huge game that featured 24 disposals and four goals, including the matchwinner, as well as six marks and five clearances.

Elijah Tsatas was busy again with 30 disposals and seven clearances and Saad El-Hawli had 20 touches, five clearances and five tackles.

Tall Nik Cox had 12 disposals and kicked two goals and Lachlan Blakiston had 15 touches, 21 hitouts, six tackles and four clearances.

Returning from injury, Tom Edwards kicked one goal and had 16 disposals and eight marks.

Irishman Cillian Bourke had 15 touches, Jayden Nguyen finished with 12 and five tackles and Ben McKay also had 12 disposals and seven marks.

Sean Darcy was a monster in Peel's 15-point win over Perth.

The ruckman will be in serious contention to replace Mason Cox after an 18-disposal performance that included a whopping 56 hitouts and a goal.

Hard-running duo Bailey Banfield and Jeremy Sharp were heavily involved with 26 and 23 disposals respectively, while Hugh Davies (18 disposals) and Joshua Draper (19 disposals) were instrumental in driving play from the backline.

Fremantle's first selection in the 2025 national draft, Adam Sweid, tallied 14 disposals and a goal.

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan booted five goals as Gold Coast suffered a 13-point loss to Greater Western Sydney on Sunday.

Ugle-Hagan had 15 disposals and took eight marks as he slotted five majors to put his hand up for a senior spot.

Caleb Lewis kicked six goals from 14 touches.

It was a big day for several Suns, with Jarrod Witts dominating in the ruck with 29 disposals, 63 hitouts and seven clearances.

Ben Jepson gathered 37 disposals and Zak Evans had 27 to go with nine clearances.

Koby Coulson (12 disposals and a goal) and Max Knobel (10 and one, and 21 hitouts) were also solid.

Conor Stone impressed as Greater Western Sydney posted a 13-point win over Gold Coast on Sunday.

Stone had 27 disposals and nine clearances in a strong performance at Blacktown.

Draftee Oskar Taylor was busy with 28 touches and a goal and Cody Angove booted three goals from his 17 disposals.

Toby McMullin (18 disposals, seven clearances and two goals) and Jake Riccardi (16 and one goal) were also good.

Finnegan Davis (15 disposals) and Oliver Hannaford (13) were solid for the Giants.

Young key forward Matt Whitlock booted a game-high three goals in North Melbourne's 46-point loss to Footscray.

The versatile tall finished with 12 disposals and five marks to go with his bag of three, while forward Zac Fisher was busy with 22 disposals, seven tackles and four clearances.

Robert Hansen jnr collected a team-high 27 disposals, young mid Luke Urquhart kicked a goal from 18 disposals and five tackles, and Bailey Scott gathered 23 disposals.

Cooper Harvey (16 disposals, four tackles) responded well after being omitted from the senior side, while ruck Taylor Goad kicked one goal and had 11 hitouts.

Lachy Dovaston (12 disposals), Brayden George (11), Hugo Mikunda (11), Oliver Griffin (seven) and River Stevens (eight) were all involved.

Port Adelaide Academy product Dougie Cochrane showed why he is considered likely to be the first name called at this year’s Telstra AFL Draft, with an outstanding performance for the Power in its clash with West Adelaide on Sunday.

While it wasn’t a good day for Port, losing by 125 points, it was a great day for the future of the club as Cochrane racked up a team-high 31 disposals as well as 10 rebound 50s and six tackles.

Big brother Tom Cochrane led the tackle count with seven, almost matching his eight touches.

Will Brodie was the busiest of the Power’s senior-listed players with 20 disposals and seven clearances, with Papua New Guinea born small forward Benny Barrett grabbing 16 touches and five tackles.

Brandon Zerk-Thatcher finished with eight disposals, Xavier Walsh had seven and Jacob Moss just four.

Despite Richmond's 14-point loss to Port Melbourne, ruckman Oliver Hayes-Brown was an immense presence across the ground with 33 hitouts, nine clearances and 18 disposals.

Zane Peucker chipped in with 18 disposals, and James Tresize had 16, while Maurice Rioli was unable to hit the scoreboard from 14 touches.

The real highlight was 20-year-old Harry Armstrong's four-goal bag, while Jasper Alger - who has kicked 13 majors at senior level in 2026 - booted two goals from six disposals.

Noah Roberts-Thompson and Tom Burton were scoreless on the day, but another bright spot was 21-year-old key forward Liam Fawcett's two goals from 13 disposals.

ST KILDA has snapped a four-game losing streak and put Carlton's VFL finals hopes in jeopardy with a thrilling seven-point win at RSEA Park on Sunday.

The Saints trailed for the first three quarters but hit the front after back-to-back goals to start the last and hung on despite a strong Carlton challenge.

Experienced midfielder Jack Macrae racked up 27 touches, seven tackles and six clearances for the Saints, while Jack Carroll had 20 disposals against his former team.

Dan Butler was a late inclusion and kicked a brilliant second quarter goal from tight in the pocket to go with his 20 disposals.

Alix Tauru showcased his amazing aerial ability several times on return from suspension, pulling in multiple impressive grabs on his way to 16 disposals and seven marks, which included four intercepts.

Charlie Banfield (16 touches) played with his customary intensity, while fellow rookie Kye Fincher had 18 disposals across half back, the majority coming in the first half.

Lance Collard (nine touches, 0.3) and Isaac Keeler (two goals, eight disposals, five marks) both had quiet days but produced big last quarter moments – Collard laying several critical tackles while Keeler kicked a goal that dragged the margin back to just three points.

Dougal Howard (13 touches) played at both ends of the ground but took just the one mark in his 13-possession day, Angus Hastie was composed with ball in hand and Alex Dodson was tireless in the ruck despite a dominant showing from Carlton's Liam Reidy.

This weekend: Subiaco v West Coast at Sullivan Logistics Stadium, Saturday August 8, 2.30pm AWST

The Eagles defeated Subiaco by 23 points, with Finlay Macrae again racking up 30 disposals and Matt Flynn putting together a masterclass in the ruck with two goals, 43 hitouts and 18 disposals.

Clay Hall (23 disposals) and Lucca Grego (21 disposals) rounded out a dominant day for West Coast's midfield.

Matt Owies, Ryan Maric, Harry Barnett and Hamish Davis all kicked a major each, but it was a quieter day for Elijah Hewett, who managed just 15 disposals as he pushes to break back into the senior side.

Tylah Williams (seven disposals) and Tyrell Dewar (13 disposals, four behinds) also struggled to make an impact.

Eight of Harry Shoenberg's 21 disposals were inside-50s, while Malakai Champion drove the ball inside 50 five times, and Sandy Brock was a rock in defence.

Footscray was wasteful in front of goal, kicking 12.25, but it did enough to comfortably beat North Melbourne by 46 points.

Harvey Gallagher led the way with 26 disposals and seven marks, while fellow defenders Luke Cleary (18 disposals, eight marks), Lachlan Carmichael (17 disposals, seven marks) and Jedd Busslinger (17 disposals) were also prominent.

Luke Kennedy (23 disposals, three clearances) and Laitham Vandermeer (eight disposals) kicked a goal apiece.

Caleb May (11 disposals, 23 hitouts, five marks), Louis Emmett (16 disposals, six clearances) and Oskar Baker (14 disposals, three clearances) were all busy.

Utility Will Darcy took seven marks to go with 11 disposals, while Lachlan McNeil (18 disposals), Ryan Gardner (eight disposals) and Zac Walker (five, four marks) were other AFL-listed Bulldogs in action.
