THE OPPORTUNITY 

The Data Scientist will deliver advanced analytics, machine learning solutions and data products that support decision-making across the Sydney Swans. Working across football, high performance, membership, consumer and commercial teams, you will turn complex data into actionable insights that improve performance, engagement and business outcomes.  

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Build predictive models to support football and business decisions. 
  • Develop and maintain machine learning models and data products. 
  • Apply advanced analytics, including forecasting, optimisation and segmentation. 
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights. 
  • Present recommendations to support decision-making and continuous improvement. 
  • Partner with stakeholders across football, high performance, membership and commercial teams. 
  • Analyse fan behaviour, audience trends, membership performance and commercial outcomes. 
  • Generate insights into customer value, ticket demand and audience segments. 
  • Support strategies that drive fan engagement, membership growth and commercial performance. 
  • Work with large datasets in a modern cloud-based environment. 
  • Enhance the quality, reliability and accessibility of data assets. 

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field. 
  • 1+ years’ experience in data science, analytics or a similar quantitative role. 
  • Strong Python and SQL capability. 
  • Experience building and deploying machine learning models. 
  • Experience working with large datasets and cloud platforms; AWS preferred. 
  • Ability to communicate insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Sports analytics or high-performance experience highly regarded. 
  • Customer or marketing analytics experience, including segmentation or propensity modelling. 
  • Exposure to forecasting, optimisation or deep learning. 
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau or similar visualisation tools. 
  • Understanding of data pipelines, ETL, APIs and data quality practices. 

 

Due to the nature of the industry, the ideal candidate must be flexible in their availability as extended hours and weekend work will be required for this role.
