STAR Fremantle recruit Eden Zanker will pull on the purple for the first time on Sunday, with midfield guns Maddy Prespakis and Laura Gardiner also cleared to feature for Essendon and Sydney respectively in round one.

Zanker has been battling a foot complaint for nearly the entire pre-season, Prespakis was a test for this week with knee soreness following a strong winter block, while Gardiner was on the comeback trail from a hip complaint.

AFLW best and fairest Ally Anderson will miss just her first AFLW game since debuting in round one, 2017, having strained a hamstring at Brisbane’s training session on Thursday night.

Port Adelaide has opted to leave out key forward Julia Teakle, choosing to go with the three-pronged attack of Gemma Houghton, Indy Tahau and Lauren Young.

Piper Window has also not recovered in time from a foot injury.

Adelaide is without young star India Rasheed, who is in the tail end of a conditioning block after a pre-season interrupted with a shin concern The Crows are hopeful she'll be available for selection in the next couple of weeks. Hannah Ewings has also been overlooked.

Brisbane has opted for a rare debutant, with draftee Marlo Graham given the nod for the Lions' match against Essendon. 

Greater Western Sydney will debut draftee ruck Yasmeen Janschek, opting to play Irish duo Eilish O'Dowd and Grace Kos through the midfield, while pick No.3 Kiera Yerbury will also play her first game.

Taylah Levy and Eleanor Brown have been overlooked for the Giants' squad.

West Coast will have two debutants – Mia Russo and Jovie Skewes-Clinton – while Keeley Skepper, Ella Slocombe and Isabella Shannon will play their first game for the club. Key back Beth Shilling and ruck Sarah Lakay have been named emergencies.

Along with Gardiner, Sydney had listed Montana Ham (illness), Sarah Grunden (quad) and debutant Imogen Brown (calf) as tests, but all have been cleared in time.
