PORT Adelaide will send a convoy of its biggest stars to China next week for a promotional tour ahead of its historic game with Gold Coast in Shanghai.

Power captain Travis Boak and two-time All Australian Robbie Gray will be joined by Chad Wingard, Brad Ebert and Ollie Wines to help up drum interest in the round eight clash.

It will be the first AFL game played for premiership points outside of Australia or New Zealand.

Key forward Charlie Dixon was also due to go on the trip, but he could be a late scratching after undergoing ankle surgery.

The players will fly out on Sunday and spend four days in China before they return to Adelaide the following Saturday to continue pre-season training with the rest of the squad.

The Power's high performance manager Darren Burgess will also be part of the entourage to ensure the players will get training under their belt while they are overseas.

Boak, Gray, Wingard and Ebert started pre-season training on Monday, while Wines is into his third week having returned on November 7 with the club's first-to-fourth-year players.

The players will get their first look at Jiangwan Sports Centre, the venue for the encounter with the Suns on Sunday, May 14.

The stadium has a capacity of 15,000 and was the site of a pre-season AFL game in 2010 between Melbourne and the Brisbane Lions.

Power chief executive Keith Thomas and head of football Chris Davies will also be among the contingent keen to see the progress made on their temporary home ground.

While the players will be based in Shanghai for their trip, backroom staff will also visit the city of Guangzhou to network with business leaders.

The Power will send members of their indigenous academy and their community department to China on Friday.
