COLLINGWOOD has appointed Adelaide great Ben Hart as an assistant coach as part of a rejig to Craig McRae's coaching panel for 2027. 

The 52-year-old joined Greater Western Sydney at the end of 2022 and led the backline this year after previously coaching the midfield at the Giants.

Now Hart will return to the Magpies for a second stint as an assistant after coaching under Nathan Buckley between 2012 and 2016. 

Hart also coached at the Crows across two stints from 2008 to 2011 and between 2018 and 2020. 

The four-time All-Australian defender won two premierships with the Crows and two best and fairests across a 311-game Hall of Fame career.

Hart most recently coached in Melbourne when he led the Northern Bullants in the VFL in 2022.

Collingwood has retained senior assistant Hayden Skipworth and backline coach Jordan Roughead amid strong interest from Essendon and Carlton respectively. 

Midfield coach Matthew Boyd is moving to be the Magpies' head of development in 2027 after the club didn't replace Josh Fraser in that role when he moved to Carlton last off-season.

Young development coach and 2023 premiership defender Nathan Murphy has moved to Gold Coast to work in development with the Suns, joining Scott Pendlebury after his trade was completed on Monday. 

Greater Western Sydney is undergoing its own coaching restructure with Brett Montgomery also departing the Giants to return to South Australia.

Montgomery has been appointed South Adelaide senior coach in the SANFL. 

The Giants have added Adam Read as an assistant after 19 years working at Fremantle, where he started as a recruiter, moved to development and most recently coached Peel Thunder to a second premiership in three years last month.
