HAWTHORN forwards Aidan Schubert and Sam Butler have joined Gold Coast after a trade was agreed on Monday.

As first reported by AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey, Schubert and Butler will head to the Suns, with a host of draft picks changing hands.

In return for losing Schubert and Butler, the Hawks will get a 2028 second-round pick from the Suns, while the Hawks have also upgraded their 2027 third-round pick for Gold Coast's second-round pick that year.

The two clubs have also swapped first-round picks in 2028.

Ironically, the 2027 third-round pick the Hawks have given up in the deal originally belonged to the Suns. It had ended up with Melbourne in the Christian Petracca deal last year before the Dees traded it to the Western Bulldogs in the mega deal last week, before the Hawks got it in a picks swap with the Dogs last Friday.

After Ben King's arrival from Gold Coast and the re-signing of Calsher Dear, Schubert opted to take up a chance to join the Suns, where greater opportunities are set to await.

The No.23 pick in last year's draft, the tall is highly rated and made his AFL debut in round 21 this year.

Butler, 23, has struggled for opportunities at the Hawks, limited to just eight games this year and 33 in five seasons.

"Our recruiting team scouted Aidan closely in his talent pathway years and continued monitoring his development in 2026 as a listed player," Gold Coast list boss Kall Burns said.

"Sam has earned opportunities to play senior football, including several finals, at Hawthorn and we believe he has a big future ahead of him at our football club. We are excited about what both players will add to our squad.

"Both Aidan and Sam boast attributes that strongly align to a Damien Hardwick system and we're looking forward to seeing them succeed in our environment."

Schubert and Butler become the latest additions to the Suns' list, joining VFL/AFL games record holder Scott Pendlebury.

Meanwhile, the Hawks have added Zach Merrett and Ben King.

"While Aidan and Sam have made great contributions to our football club, this was the best outcome for all parties involved," Hawks list boss Mark McKenzie said.

"As we bring other players into our system, it will inevitably lead to players seeking greater opportunity elsewhere.

"After negotiating the appropriate terms with Gold Coast as well as Sam and Aidan's management, we were able to reach a deal which strengthens our draft capital in the years to come."
