GREATER Western Sydney has a two-year offer in front of gun midfielder Tom Green as he works through his huge contract call.

The Giants put forward a seven-year offer to Green in the middle of this year, which was revealed by AFL.com.au in June, that would take him through to the end of 2034 at the club and be worth close to $10 million.

However, it can also be revealed the Giants have since then tabled a two-year offer to Green as well, with the shorter-term play among the considerations for the star midfielder.

Green is expected to favour the shorter-term contract, with him remaining at the Giants seen as the likely option at this stage.

It comes amid Tasmania's enormous push for Green to be the Devils' marquee signing at the end of 2027, with the Canberra product one of Tasmania's top priority targets.

The Devils have access to out of contract players under their rules over the next two years, but Green is also qualifying for restricted free agency.

There is a view in the industry that the Devils have put forward a deal that would eclipse the $18 million record deal Zak Butters landed at the Western Bulldogs in their attempts to lure Green south as their first star and captain.

But the Giants' offer of a shorter-term deal could see him shun the Devils' advances and take him through to unrestricted free agency at the end of 2029, when he would be able to walk to a rival club without the Giants having the ability to match a deal.

Green has been comfortable waiting and working through his contract call and focusing on his recovery from his knee reconstruction on the eve of this season in February, which ruled him out of their campaign.

He is expected to be a captain – either solo or as a co-captaincy – at the Giants next year after the departure of Toby Greene to Geelong through free agency earlier this month.

GWS football boss Jason McCartney told Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio earlier this month the club was hopeful of locking in at least one of key free agent pair Green and Lachie Ash before Christmas.
