ST KILDA has locked away another youngster, with midfielder Daniel McKenzie putting pen to paper on a contract extension.

McKenzie, who made his debut in round five against Essendon, has played five games this season and has signed a new one-year deal tying him to the Saints until at least 2017.

The 19-year-old was selected with pick 22 in last year's NAB AFL Draft after registering elite speed, endurance and agility at the draft combine and is averaging 13 disposals in his debut season.

McKenzie's re-signing follows those of Dylan Roberton and Cameron Shenton in the past two weeks, while 19 youngsters re-committed at the end of 2014.

"It's awesome to sign with St Kilda because we have such a young and exciting list," McKenzie told the club's website.

"What excites me most is the young talent coming through. There is a lot of room for development and I think we've shown our potential in some games early in the season."
