THE 2009 draft class is excelling, with plenty of value selections bobbing up as key figures in the Official AFL Player Ratings this season.

Fremantle star Nat Fyfe (pick No.20 that year) is the top-scoring player in the competition this season, racking up 115.8 points. Fyfe has also risen to the No.4 slot, from No.9, in the overall rankings.

While Fyfe is one of the best draft value picks of recent years, there are a number of other players from the 2009 crop enjoying productive seasons.

Port Adelaide's Jasper Pittard (pick No.16), Geelong's Mitch Duncan (No.28) and Hawthorn's Jack Gunston (No.29) are shining as well.

Pittard has been a fixture in Port Adelaide's defence, with his run and carry an important an important part of how the Power move the ball with pace and precision.

The 24-year-old is second of all small/medium defenders for player ratings points, averaging 23 disposals per game and is tenth in the AFL for metres gained (492m).

Pittard is also equal 11th in the competition for rebound 50s.

Duncan has put a slow start to the season behind him to catch fire in the past few weeks.

The emerging Cat is second for intercept possessions for midfielders in the past month, ninth for uncontested possessions in that time and he has the second most uncontested marks of any midfielder during that period.

Duncan also has the best disposal efficiency of the top-40 ball winners in the past month, breaking into the top 50 in the overall standings after ranking third for player ratings points in the last four rounds.

Gunston has undergone the ninth-biggest rise of any player this season and has chalked up the most points of any key forward in 2015.

The agile Hawk is fifth in the AFL for score assists, 13th for goals per game and third for scoreboard impact, which encompasses scores and assists.

But the granddaddy of the whole 2009 draft class is Fyfe.

He has taken the competition by storm and it's not hard to see why he's the clear-cut Brownlow Medal favourite when you take a look at the impact he has made in 2015.

The Docker is third in the AFL for disposals, second in contested possessions, eighth for clearances, fourth for centre clearances, eighth for inside 50s, third for intercept marks and second for score involvements.

Fyfe has also taken 15 contested marks for the season. To put that in perspective, no other midfielder has taken more than five contested marks.

When the 2009 draft is being debated, much of the attention centres on the top three picks of Tom Scully, Jack Trengove and Dustin Martin.

However it's clear the clubs who picked wisely toward the end of the first-round and at the start and end of the second are the ones getting the most value for money.
