GARY Ablett has ticked every box to play Carlton on Sunday, but the final decision will be left up to him.

The Gold Coast captain finished a strong 90-minute session at Metricon Stadium on Wednesday morning, completing every skill and match simulation drill with his teammates.

If body language were any indication, Ablett would play.

He was bubbly, energetic, demonstrative in directing his teammates, and when it came his turn to win balls and navigate through traffic, he did it without hesitation.

Tons of Suns

On one occasion Ablett dived for a mark, landed heavily on his left shoulder but bounced straight back to his feet and ran to the next contest.

Although he was not strongly bumped or tackled, there appeared no impediment to his play.

After the main session, Ablett went behind closed doors for additional one-on-one training with the Suns' conditioning staff, which he reportedly completed well.

He has not played since aggravating his reconstructed left shoulder against St Kilda in round two.

Ablett is the ultimate professional and conservative by nature, and some Suns' officials believe the Brownlow medallist might wait another week before making his comeback.

Coach Rodney Eade said it would be up to Ablett and the medical team to decide whether he played this weekend.

"We probably won't know until tomorrow," Eade said before the session.

"More than likely we'll name him and then see how he goes, see how he feels.

"If he says he's not right, we won't pick him. If there's a good chance he's going to play, we'll name him."

Ablett dislocated his shoulder against Collingwood on July 5 last year.

The round 14 fixture against North Melbourne would mark one year since the incident.

Steven May (groin) and Harley Bennell (calf) will return to play the Blues, while David Swallow (knee) is also a chance of playing his first game since round four.

Jarrod Harbrow has twisted his ankle and is racing the clock to play.

Fullback Rory Thompson will return from a hip flexor injury through the NEAFL.
