ADELAIDE remains hopeful defender Brodie Smith will play in Saturday night's elimination final despite missing training on Wednesday because of an ankle injury.

The All Australian backman, who suffered the injury against Geelong last week, is likely to face a last-gasp test on game day to prove his fitness to face the Western Bulldogs.

"He did a bit of stuff inside today but he's tracking really well ... we will give him every chance he needs to get himself right," Adelaide midfielder Rory Sloane said after training.
