RYAN Bastinac appears increasingly likely to seek a fresh start at the Brisbane Lions, with the North Melbourne midfielder expected to make a decision on his future soon.

Bastinac toured the Lions' Gabba headquarters on Friday and has since received an attractive four-year offer to shift north.

AFL.com.au understands the 24-year-old is on the verge of requesting a trade, having realised he is almost certain to enjoy greater senior opportunities with the Lions.

Bastinac is contracted at Arden Street until the end of 2017, but North will not stand in his way if he wants to leave provided a suitable trade can be done.

If the Roos are successful in convincing wantaway Lions midfielder James Aish that his future lies with them rather than Collingwood, it is likely that the South Australian will be part of the Bastinac trade.

Bastinac shaped as one of North's most promising midfielders in his first four seasons at Arden Street, finishing eighth in the Roos' 2012 best and fairest award and sixth in 2013.

However, he struggled to adapt to a more outside role last year and was dropped four times in 2015 before missing North's entire finals campaign.

Collingwood is close to finalising its trade for GWS midfielder Adam Treloar, with that deal likely to go through on Tuesday.

The Magpies are set to part with their pick No.7 in this year's NAB AFL Draft and a 2016 first-round selection.

The delay in paperwork being signed is around the second component of the deal, which is a second-round pick that will be sent from the Giants to the Magpies.

Collingwood is hopeful the deal will be made official by early Tuesday afternoon.

It is expected that the Magpies will finalise a trade with St Kilda for midfielder Nathan Freeman early on Tuesday, in which they will get the Saints' 2016 second-round pick.

The Magpies can then turn their attention to Brisbane Lions midfielder Aish, who is still being pursued by North Melbourne but would prefer a trade to Collingwood.

After securing ready-made midfielder Tom Bell and with Bastinac in the pipeline, the Lions will be in the market for draft selections to assist them securing academy players Ben Keays and Eric Hipwood.

Meanwhile, the future home of exiled Western Bulldogs defender Michael Talia is unclear, with the Sydney Swans' interest appearing to cool.

Talia has been linked to Essendon but may need to wait for the 10-day delisted free agency window to open on October 31 to move.

GWS' Tomas Bugg remains on track to join the Demons, with the club expected to use a third round pick for the 22-year-old, who has performed well in 65 games with the Giants.

After trading Jimmy Toumpas to Port Adelaide on Monday in a deal involving four clubs, the Demons hope to effectively pick up Bugg, a noted competitor, for Toumpas.

Bugg is one of several Giants seeking opportunities elsewhere during this trade period as the Giants have to reduce the number of players on their list, with Liam Sumner, Andrew Phillips and Lachie Plowman all likely to be traded before the end of the trade period.

The Giants remain steadfast in their refusal to trade Cam McCarthy to Fremantle despite acknowledging the 20-year-old is homesick.

The Dockers have offered pick No.22 and a first round selection from 2016 for McCarthy and might be prepared to entertain trading a player, but the Giants have so far refused to budge.

Courtenay Dempsey's manager Shane Casley told AFL.com.au he'd had discussions with Essendon over the past week about the unrestricted free agent, who is on the Swans' radar.

Dempsey is away on holidays, but is due to return to Melbourne later this week when Casley expects to sit down with him and decide where he wants to play beyond 2015.

Casley also manages out-of-contract North Melbourne forward/ruckman Majak Daw, whose future, he said, would likely be decided after the trade period.

Casley said he’d had "several chats" with North about Daw over the past month and was optimistic his client would play on at Arden Street in 2016.

Gold Coast remains hopeful of securing West Coast veteran Matt Rosa after he shocked the Eagles last week when he requested a trade.

Negotiations are ongoing but the 28-year-old could attract a second round selection from the Suns after 168 games with the Eagles if the club agrees to a trade.

Rosa is seeking more opportunities after being the substitute in the Grand Final as the Eagles continue to build their midfield depth.

The Suns have not budged on their wish to get more than pick No.10 for key forward Charlie Dixon
