BRISBANE Lions defender Joel Patfull is on the brink of joining Greater Western Sydney.

The clubs have an in-principle agreement that would see the two-time best and fairest winner head to the Giants in exchange for pick 21.

No paperwork has been lodged at this stage, but is expected to in the near future.

Patfull, 29, has a year remaining on his current contract, but told the Lions he would move to Sydney post-football and was open to an earlier move to the Harbour City.

He has played 182 games since making his debut in 2006, and finished third behind Tom Rockliff and Dayne Zorko in this year's Club Champion count.

Finalising the Patfull deal would open the door for the Lions to negotiate with Geelong for midfielder Allen Christensen, who told the Cats on Wednesday he wanted to move to Queensland.

Lions recruitment manager Peter Schwab told AFL.com.au the clubs had spoken, but there was no formal offer in place at this stage.

He said the Lions would look to offer draft picks for Christensen, although with No.5 and No.25 already on the table for Collingwood's Dayne Beams, they had nothing to offer at the moment.

However, once the Patfull deal was completed, they would then look at the incoming pick as bait to lure the 23-year-old Cat.

"We're not going to give up any of our young players so it'll have to come down to draft picks," Schwab said.

"At the moment, without having one in the hand, we can't really offer them much.

"That (pick No.21) is something we would consider, but we don't have it in the hand yet."
