PORT Adelaide could be delivered a huge boost ahead of its massive Friday night clash against Geelong at Adelaide Oval, with defender Jackson Trengove shaping as a possible inclusion.

Trengove injured his ankle in the club's round eight loss to Richmond. He didn't require surgery but was expected to miss six weeks.

The key backman said he felt good as he ran laps, sprinted and tested out the ankle on Tuesday morning.

Patrick Ryder also looked fit as he tested his injured Achilles.

Coach Ken HInkley suggested Trengove was a sneaky chance to face the Cats, and defender Matthew Broadbent said the return of either key player would be welcome.

"It'd be great to have them both back obviously…they're well in our best 18," Broadbent said.

Broadbent was omitted after the club's shock loss to the Brisbane Lions in round seven, but his form has turned around over the past fortnight, averaging 21 disposals and almost nine marks a game.

His week off was a chance to freshen up both physically and mentally, but it was also a reminder to focus on team-first football.

"I was trying not to [worry about myself] but I suppose subconsciously sometimes it can happen," he said.

"No one wants to go against the team or anything like that, but when the team's form isn't going as well it can happen a bit.

"I feel pretty fresh after a little break…my form wasn't great and the team's form wasn't great also.

"The Magpies had a bye that week as well so it was a good opportunity to just have a rest."

The half-back flanker's renewed focus reflects that of his teammates'. Skipper Travis Boak pulled the playing group together on Adelaide Oval after its six-goal-to-one final quarter against the Western Bulldogs last Saturday night to point out some late failures.

The Power won the game by 38-points but the captain's reaction shows the side's determination to live up to pre-season expectation.

They will have to be at their best on Friday night if they're to knock off a Geelong outfit buoyed by its impressive 69-point demolition of Essendon at the weekend.

"Geelong are a great side and have been for a long time, so it's certainly going to be a challenge for us and one that we're really looking forward to," Broadbent said.

"We're doing everything right to try and keep that momentum rolling into the bye in a couple of weeks. "We've got a big week this week."
