ESSENDON will challenge defender Mark Baguley's suspension at the Tribunal on Tuesday night after he was hit with a one-match ban by the Match Review Panel.

Baguley was charged with striking St Kilda teenager Jack Lonie after an AFL investigation deemed he struck the half-forward high.

Vision was inconclusive and appeared to show Baguley striking the round 14 NAB AFL Rising Star on the arm in the second quarter of the Saints' 110-point win over the Bombers on Sunday.

Baguley's strike was deemed to be a two-match sanction, with the incident classified as intentional conduct with low impact to the head.

Baguley is the only player challenging his ban on Tuesday night, with Toby Greene accepting his $1500 fine for spitting at Tiger Anthony Miles.

If he tried to fight the charge he risked a $2500 fine.

The Giants and Greene maintain there was no intent to spit at or on Miles, and given the serious implications and stigma attached to such a charge, the club considered appealing to clear the 21 year-old's name.

Had the MRP charged Greene with spitting on an opponent the offence would have been directly referred to the Tribunal.

The Match Review Panel also offered a one-game ban to Richmond ruckman Ivan Maric.

Gibbs 'confused' after MRP clears Schulz tackle

Maric's striking charge on Giant Jack Steele was classified as a two-match sanction by the MRP but the big man reduced on Tuesday morning that to one-game with an early plea.

The panel deemed Maric's contact as careless conduct with medium impact to the head.

Port Adelaide forward Jay Schulz was cleared for his aggressive tackle that forced Sydney Swans defender Ted Richards to be carried from the field with concussion.

Schulz is available to face Collingwood on Thursday night after the panel believed the tackle – as opposed to the one that saw Blue Bryce Gibbs rubbed out for two games – was undertaken in one continuous motion, with no secondary action.

Collingwood's Travis Varcoe has accepted a $1500 sanction for forceful front-on contact on Hawthorn's Cyril Rioli.

It was the panel's view that the incident be classified as careless conduct with low impact to the head.

Richmond captain Trent Cotchin has accepted a $1000 fine for striking Giant Zac Williams, while West Coast forward Mark LeCras accepted the same penalty for striking Melbourne's Neville Jetta.

The MRP deemed Cotchin's strike as careless conduct with low impact to Williams' head, while LeCras' strike was viewed as intentional conduct with low impact to Jetta's head.

Port Adelaide defender Matthew Broadbent was charged with making unreasonable or unnecessary contact to injured Swan Luke Parker and accepted a $1000 sanction.

Broadbent's incident was assessed as intentional conduct with low impact to the body.

Fremantle's Hayden Ballantyne and Brisbane Lions defender Darcy Gardiner both accepted $1000 fines for wrestling each other.

Meanwhile, Giants Callan Ward ($1500), Cam McCarthy ($1000), Adam Treloar ($1000) and Tiger Jake Batchelor ($1000) were all fined for being involved in a melee during the first quarter of Saturday's game at the MCG.
