The 27-year-old, however, faces a nervous wait after being reported for misconduct in the final quarter.

Defender Marco Paparone is another who will mount a case, after amassing a game-high 35 touches to go with his 14 marks.

Josh Walker (15 touches and a goal) and Jono Freeman (16 touches, seven marks and a goal) were serviceable as a forward pair, while rookie Matthew Hammelmman had 17 touches and 10 marks to be named among the best.

Collingwood

State league affiliate: Collingwood (VFL)

Maligned Pies forward Travis Cloke staked his claims for an immediate recall, producing an eye-catching performance to lead his side to a 40-point victory over Casey.

Cloke, who was dropped for the second time this season, displayed renewed vigour and desperation to end with 13 disposals, two goals and eight tackles in wet conditions.

Midfielder James Aish, who was named best-on-ground for his 32-posession performance, praised Cloke for his intensity at the contest.

"He's an imposing figure and the more he can do that the better he's going to be and its good that he's bringing that effort to the reserves," Aish told Channel Seven.

"He'll be up there again soon and it’ll be good for the team."

Adam Oxley responded well to his recent omission and worked tirelessly in defence to be named among the best.

Essendon

State league affiliate: Essendon (VFL)
This weekend: Sandringham v Essendon - Sunday June 12, 11.40am, Trevor Barker Beach Oval

Draftee Aaron Francis injured his right quad late in the first quarter of the Bombers' 28-point loss, and emerged from the change rooms with ice strapped around his leg.

The 18-year-old defender, who returned from a calf injury via the VFL just three weeks ago, was nearing an AFL debut but now looks destined for another stint on the sidelines.

Francis, the No.6 pick in last year's NAB AFL Draft, had earlier missed five weeks due to the calf tear he suffered at training in April.

In better news, Jayden Laverde made a successful comeback from a right AC joint shoulder injury he sustained against Geelong in round four.

The second-year forward got his hands on the ball early in the game and finished with three goals, kicking the Bombers' first of the day with an accurate set shot from 45m.

Of the 12 Bombers-listed players to take the field, young defender Jason Ashby (25 touches) impressed courtesy of his ability to repeatedly set up from half-back.

In a low scoring affair, forward Mitch Clark got through his second consecutive VFL match unscathed and ended with 16 touches and a goal in the seven-point loss to Footscray.

The luckless Big Cat played in a two-pronged tall attack with Nathan Vardy (one goal), but will most likely be forced to wait a few more weeks and build match fitness before being considered for an AFL return.

Sam Menegola, another Cat who recently returned from injury, impressed with 21 possessions to be named among the best.

In his first NEAFL game in almost a year, Hall also added eight tackles and four marks in his side's 13-point loss as he presses his claims for an immediate return.

Mackenzie Willis collected 26 disposals and goal, while Keegan Brooksby had 16 touches and laid eight tackles.

Hawthorn

State league affiliate: Box Hill (VFL)
This weekend: Box Hill v Northern Blues - Saturday June 11, 2pm, Box Hill City Oval

In an otherwise forgetful day for the Hawks, tall utility Dallas Willsmore was a positive light, booting three goals to go with his 21 touches in the 36-point loss to the Blues.

Midfielder Jono O’Rourke was a leading ball winner in his third match back from injury and ended with 22 disposals and five inside 50s.

Key defender Kurt Heatherley was prominent with 22 touches of his own, while Kieran Lovell (21 touches) continues to fight hard in the reserves following his omission in round 7.

Youngster Teia Miles, who has also been performing consistently for Box Hill, contributed two goals.

Melbourne

State league affiliate: Casey Scorpions (VFL)
This weekend: Casey Scorpions v Collingwood - Saturday June 11, 2.10pm, Casey Fields

There were few positives in heavy conditions for the Scorpions, who could manage only two goals in their 40-point loss to the Magpies.

Matt Jones, who hasn’t featured at AFL level since his demotion in Round 4, worked hard in defeat to accumulate 32 disposals.

Viv Michie backed up his strong outing last week and was also prominent with 27 touches.

Omitted small forward Jeff Garlett barely featured, but could be excused on a day where goals were hard to conjure.

North Melbourne

State league affiliate: Werribee (VFL)
This weekend: Richmond v Werribee - Sunday June 12, 12.30pm, Punt Road Oval

Defender Lachy Hansen was named Werribee's best in its 31-point loss, playing in his customary defensive role for three quarters before drifting forward.

With Werribee managing just two goals to three-quarter time and trailing by 30 points, Hansen was used in attacking 50 in the final term and was rewarded with three goals to go with his 25 disposals.

North development manager Ben Dyer told AFL.com.au Hansen impressed at both ends of the ground.

"He was really good at his one-on-ones and did everything we needed down back, and then (we) needed to change things up to try and win the game so he went forward … and looked really dangerous," Dyer said.

"He made (Richmond defender Troy) Chaplin a bit more accountable than he had needed to be before that – it was a really solid game from Lachy."

Dyer added that draftees Declan Mountford and Ryan Clarke (28 disposals) also found plenty of the ball and worked their teammates into the game.

Port Adelaide

State league affiliate: Port Adelaide (SANFL)
This weekend: Port Adelaide v Sturt - Sunday June 12, 2.10pm, Alberton Oval

Former Demon Jimmy Toumpas was Port's leading ball-winner but his skills let him down at times, gathering 24 possessions and kicking a goal in the 22-point defeat.

The Power's three emergencies for the round 12 clash to the Western Bulldogs, Brendon Ah Chee (23 touches, one goal), Karl Amon (23) and Sam Colquhoun (22), each played well despite the loss.

Richmond

State league affiliate: Richmond (VFL)
This weekend: Richmond v Werribee - Sunday June 12, 12.30pm, Punt Road Oval

An even contribution from the Tigers' AFL-listed players was the key to their 31-point win.

Midfielder Andrew Moore put his head over the ball with 34 touches, while axed backman Troy Chaplin and rookie Mabior Chol impressed in defence by restricting Werribee to just six goals for the match.

Ruckman Ivan Maric shouldered much of the ruck load and performed well, working in tandem with midfielders Jason Castagna, Jacob Townsend and rookie Adam Marcon to win the clearance battle.

The Tigers emerged with a clean bill of health.

St Kilda

State league affiliate: Sandringham (VFL)

Small forward Jack Lonie boosted his chances of being considered for an AFL call-up, bagging a game-high five goals to go with 14 touches and six marks in the 28-point win.

The livewire forward made the most of his opportunities in attack with four of his five goals coming in the first half, which included a brilliant roving goal.

Axed playmaker Jack Billings (28 touches) returned to form and played a key role alongside Jack Sinclair (26 touches, two goals) and Eli Templeton (29 touches).

With Lewis Pierce debuting for the Saints on Sunday, American import Jason Holmes assumed the sole ruck duties and gave his side first use of the ball.

Sydney Swans

Yet-to-debut rookie Jordan Foote was named the Swans' best with 21 possessions, eight tackles and two goals.

Defender Aliir Aliir (19 touches, five marks) and second-year Swan Abe Davis (12 touches, seven marks) were also clean ball users, while rookie Nic Newman led the disposal count with 31 disposals and eight tackles.

Western Bulldogs

State league affiliate: Footscray (VFL)
This weekend: Footscray v Geelong - Saturday June 11, 11am, Whitten Oval

Luckless Bulldogs midfielder Clay Smith returned from a third anterior cruciate ligament injury in remarkable fashion, amassing 36 disposals in a best-on-ground performance.

The 23-year-old was cheered by the Whitten Oval faithful for every possession and displayed his usual grunt through the middle to end with five tackles in the seven-point win.

Despite not hitting the scoreboard, Tom Boyd showed some promising signs in his second match back from a shoulder injury.

The former No.1 draft pick competed well in the ruck and was well complemented by Will Minson who kicked a goal.

Lin Jong (30 disposals and two goals) was dominant in his return from suspension and may be an ideal replacement for injured Bulldog Luke Dahlhaus.
