JOHN Longmire has hailed the mental toughness of co-captain Kieren Jack who inspired the Swans to a 38-point win over Geelong on Friday night.

In his 200th game, and after enduring a taxing week in which a family dispute became public, Jack had 24 disposals, laid 10 tackles and kicked three goals to lead the Swans to their best win of the season.

"I thought he was really good tonight. He's a pretty mentally strong person and he applied himself really well tonight. He knew the players were supporting him," Longmire said.

"He played a good two-way brand of footy so we were really happy with him."

Jack's girlfriend Charlotte Goodlet, reportedly at the centre of the feud, had an emotional embrace with her partner in the Swans' rooms after the game, while Brandon Jack was also on hand to support his older brother.

The emotion of the week was clearly evident after Jack booted the first goal of the game as his teammates rallied around him.

"Kieren went through a tough week, that's been well written and documented and everyone's over it to be honest," Longmire said.

"The players support him and Brandon in a really strong way, but in the end I think it's time for people to move on."

Longmire said the club's leaders deserved a lot of credit for the way they approached the contest, as the Swans leapt to second position on the ladder (with the round still to play out) and one game behind next week's opponent Hawthorn.

The Swans had just six days to prepare for the clash against the Cats, who were coming off their bye feeling refreshed.

SHOWREEL: Super Swans do it with silk and strength

"It was sensational. From the first bounce we thought we played a really strong brand of footy," Longmire said.

"They came at us a bit in the second quarter but I thought our leaders were sensational and our kids were super tonight.

"To come down and play Geelong in Geelong and come away with a win like that with a young group, we were really happy with it."

The Swans had four players who had played less than 10 games and eight under the 30-game mark, with Longmire backing his young players to rise to the occasion.

The Swans' kids certainly met their coach's expectations, with Allir Allir, Callum Mills, Dean Towers and Zak Jones all crucial contributors in the win.

Allir was terrific in his shutdown role on returning Cat Mitch Clark, while Mills has put himself in the box seat to earn a long-awaited NAB AFL Rising Star nomination for his role on Geelong's dangerous small forwards.

"It's terrific when you see that sort of enthusiasm. It can go either way at times and you've got to be careful you don't tip it too far one way," Longmire said.

"We had reasons for each of them… it's a great experience for those blokes."

Versatile defender Dane Rampe was best afield in what was a bruising contest, displaying poise and clean hands to further boost his All Australian credentials.

"He's had a great year, so far," Longmire said. "He plays on talls and smalls and he's been terrific in our back half."

The Swans now have another six-day break before the showdown with ladder leader Hawthorn at the SCG next Thursday night.

"We'll enjoy tonight but it'll be pretty short lived and we'll prepare as best we can for the Hawks," Longmire said
