RICHMOND will receive compensation in the middle of round two of the NAB AFL Draft after deciding not to match Hawthorn's offer to free agent Ty Vickery.

It gives the Tigers pick No.26 based on current draft order, with the AFL's decision based on Vickery's age and his contract offer.

The Hawks lodged a two-year offer to the 26-year-old on Friday and the Tigers decided to let the ruck/forward go to the Hawks.

"We are excited that a deal could be reached and we look forward to welcoming Ty to the club," Hawthorn list manager Graham Wright said.

"His ability to play both ruck and forward will be an extremely valuable asset making him a fantastic addition to our list.

"At 26 years of age Ty has plenty of football left to play and we look forward to seeing what he can produce at the Hawks."

Vickery played 118 games with Richmond after being the No.8 selection in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft.

The 200cm Vickery kicked 158 goals for the Tigers and showed glimpses of his talent, however he was unable to produce it on a consistent basis.

The Tigers' decision not to match the offer will be a relief to the Hawks who are likely to have their hands full reaching agreement with Gold Coast and Sydney for Jaeger O'Meara and Tom Mitchell.
