He was outshone by another young big man in Jonathan Freeman, who bagged a game-high four goals.

Former Kangaroos midfielder Ryan Bastinac enjoyed another big day with 35 touches, while Rhys Mathieson (30), Tom Cutler (23), Blake Grewar (21), Liam Dawson (21), Mitchell Hinge (20) were also key contributors.

Ex-Bulldog Jones played a sensational game, restricting dumped St Kilda forward Josh Bruce to just one goal while collecting 26 touches and 15 marks.

Palmer, the former Docker and Giant, gathered 30 possessions and kicked a goal, while ex-Cat Smedts had 25 disposals.

Tom Bellchambers produced his best performance of the season with the ruckman best-afield against Coburg on Saturday.

Locked in a battle with Matthew Leuenberger for the Bombers' No.1 ruck mantle, the 27-year-old bagged six goals from 23 possessions and six marks in an 89-point win.

Teenager Josh Begley chimed in with four goals while Kyle Langford slotted two.

State league affiliate: Peel Thunder (WAFL)
This weekend: Perth v Peel Thunder - Saturday, May 20, 2.15pm, Lathlain Park

There were positives all round for the Dockers following Peel's comprehensive 90-point win, headlined by forward Hayden Ballantyne's successful return from pre-season hamstring surgery.

The 29-year-old was carefully managed in his comeback and kicked two goals from 13 touches before being rested halfway through the third quarter.

Draftee Luke Ryan, the No.66 selection in last year's NAB AFL Draft, was named his side's best player thanks to his team-high 30 disposals, nine marks, four inside 50s and one goal.

Fellow draftee Brennan Cox, the No.41 pick last year, was a dominant force in the air and at ground level, amassing 26 disposals and 17 marks playing across half-back.

After featuring in Peel's reserves last weekend in his return from a groin injury, rookie Josh Deluca continued to make good progress, kicking three goals to go with his 23 disposals playing between the midfield and forward line.

Acting captain Lang collected 25 possessions, six tackles, five clearances and booted four goals, including three in a match-defining third quarter.

Ruggles amassed a game-high 34 possessions in an aggressive, assured performance in the back half.

However, Ruggles' bump on Bulldog Mitch Honeychurch might well come under scrutiny.

Jackson Thurlow copped an accidental knee to the head in the second term and was assessed for concussion.

Kangaroos tagger Ben Jacobs has emerged unscathed after his first game back from a long-term foot problem to play a key role in Werribee's five-point win at North Ballarat.

Jacobs ran well and won plenty of hard ball in a display that would have warmed the hearts of Roos fans.

Forward/ruckman Majak Daw hauled in contested marks and split packs in an impressive three-goal effort.

Angus Monfries continues to stake his claim for a senior berth following another solid display in the Port Adelaide Magpies' 21-point loss to Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFL on Saturday.

In his third game back from a hamstring injury, Monfries had team-high tallies of both possessions (28) and marks (11) and also kicked one of his team's six goals in a low-scoring affair.

Fellow runner Jimmy Toumpas (25) was also prominent while dropped pair Aaron Young (22) and Dan Houston (21) showed promising signs.

This weekend: Williamstown v Richmond - Sunday, May 21, 12pm, Burbank Oval

The 20-year-old, who kicked two goals, left the ground in the hands of trainers and didn't return.

Half-forward Ben Lennon appeared to pick up a leg niggle soon after converting a set shot in the last term, but he shook off any injury troubles to finish the game with 18 disposals and two goals.

Omitted key forward Todd Elton registered three goals and axed midfielder Corey Ellis had 19 touches, while tall rookie Mabior Chol was moved into the ruck in the final term after having little impact in the first three quarters.

First-year draftee Oliver Florent pressed his claims for a return to AFL level with a best-afield performance in a 67-point win over Sydney Uni on Friday night on a wet Henson Park.

The 18-year-old, who played five senior games before being rested last week, amassed 30 possessions (12 contested) and kicked a goal, with stand-in coach Nick Davis saying it "looked like he was playing with a dry football".

Rookies Sam Fisher (23 touches and a team-high three goals) and Robbie Fox (two goals and 14 tackles), defender Jeremy Laidler, Brandon Jack (28 touches and a goal) and former Giants and Essendon player Shaun Edwards (25 and a goal) also shone.

Another to dominate was young ruckman Darcy Cameron, who had 55 hit-outs.

Meanwhile, Dan Robinson received a head knock in an aerial duel.

For Sydney Uni, former Swans forward Xavier Richards – who played in last year's AFL Grand Final but failed in his quest to be traded to a Melbourne club and was delisted – kicked three of his team's six goals and was named its best player.

State league affiliate: East Perth (WAFL)
This weekend: South Fremantle v East Perth - Saturday, May 20, 2.15pm, Fremantle Community Bank Oval

Veteran forward Drew Petrie returned from a broken left hand and played a key role in the tense final minute of East Perth's come-from-behind one-point win.

With scores level in the dying stages after a Mark Hutchings goal, Petrie took a mark about 45m out and his set shot from just beyond the arc was punched through on the line for a rushed behind.

Petrie ended with 15 disposals and 11 hit-outs, supporting Jonathan Giles (25 hit-outs, eight disposals) in the ruck.

Defender Jackson Nelson gathered 15 touches and kicked a goal in his comeback from a broken wrist, while backman Will Schofield (18 disposals, one goal), Hutchings (27 disposals, one goal) and tall Tom Lamb (19 disposals, three goals) continued their good recent run.

Livewire Lewis Jetta also tried hard and generated scoring chances courtesy of his 21 possessions and 10 inside 50s.

Dropped Dog Tom Liberatore is unlikely to receive an immediate senior recall after producing an underwhelming game for Footscray in the VFL on Saturday.

The out-of-favour premiership midfielder, whom coach Luke Beveridge revealed wasn't as "physically prepared" as he was last year, struggled to break the shackles against Geelong at Whitten Oval, finishing with just 21 touches in a 12-point loss.

Fellow premiership players Shane Biggs (27 disposals) and Toby McLean (25) thrust their names before selectors, while Mitch Honeychurch (20) and defenders Fletcher Roberts and Zaine Cordy worked hard.
