GEELONG'S defensive stocks will be tested over the coming weeks with Harry Taylor to miss some time with a foot injury.

Taylor came from the field in the first quarter of Sunday's win over Melbourne after suffering a plantar fasciitis injury and spent the remainder of the match on the bench with his foot in an ice bucket.

The club still doesn't know the full extent of the injury but is preparing to be without the key defender for a number of weeks.

"He'll miss footy. We're optimistic it won't be really long, but somewhere in that medium-term bracket," coach Chris Scott told Fox Footy on Monday night.

The injury is a big blow to the Cats' defence with Lachie Henderson still sidelined with a knee injury.

The 28-year-old had surgery in December, but was running laps at training last week as he hopes to return within a month.

But in better news, captain Joel Selwood is confident he'll be right take on Hawthorn in the annual Easter Monday blockbuster after a leg scare in the win over Melbourne.

Selwood reached for his right leg following a crunching tackle from Demon Josh Wagner and moved to full-forward in the third term of Sunday's clash.

The skipper returned to the centre square for the final term and collected nine possessions as the Cats held on for a three-point victory.

"It's all good, just a little bit of a shock at the time but (was) able to run it out and feel good after that," Selwood said on Monday.

With Patrick Dangerfield likely to return, Geelong fans will get their first look at the 2016 Brownlow medallist, Selwood and Gary Ablett in the same team.

Defender Tom Stewart said on Monday he was feeling no ill-effect after having his left ankle looked at by club medical staff, while Cam Guthrie will be monitored after a groin complaint.
