STAR St Kilda midfielder Jack Steven has won his fourth Trevor Barker Award.

The speedy onballer joins Robert Harvey and Bill Cubbins with four Saints best and fairests, and trails only champion forward Nick Riewoldt (six).

Steven played every game and averaged 27 disposals, finishing the season ranked No.6 for average centre clearances and No.7 for average bounces.

The 28-year-old previously won the award in 2013, 2015 and 2016.

He has twice been nominated for the Virgin Australia AFL All Australian squad but has never been named in the final team.

St Kilda recently quashed rumours Steven, who is contracted until the end of 2020, could be on the move.

Last year's winner Seb Ross finished in second place after going at 30 disposals per match, while young gun Jack Steele rounded out the top three.

Steven shot out to an early lead, with a tally of 50 after six matches, before producing an excellent performance in round 23 as St Kilda lost to North Melbourne to hold off a late charge from Ross.

Coach Alan Richardson paid tribute to the Steven's leadership, particularly early on.

"Jack really led the way in the first half of this season. While we were inconsistent as a team, Jack continued to deliver week-in, week-out," Richardson said.

"It's testament to the type of player and leader he is. Jack sets a great example for our young group and is incredibly important for what we're trying to build at our footy club."

Impressive defender Daniel McKenzie managed to finish 10th despite playing 13 matches, showing his ability to lockdown small forwards in the second half of the season.

Exciting forward Jade Gresham was considered the Best Emerging Player, Steele won the Lenny Hayes Player Trademark Award while Dylan Roberton took home the Best Clubman Award.

Six coaches independently hand out between zero and four votes to each player to determine the best and fairest.
