COLLINGWOOD defender Jack Crisp still hasn't completed a full training session with the Magpies' main group this pre-season but he remains on track for round one.

The dashing half-back flanker is steadily working his way back to full fitness after undergoing post-season hip surgery and managing a back issue.

The former Brisbane rookie hasn't missed a game as a Magpie, accumulating 98 consecutive matches (including six as a Lion), and his unblemished record appears set to remain intact.

One of the stars of the Magpies' 2018 revival, Crisp continued to step up his preparations at training at Olympic Park on Wednesday morning as the temperature rose into the 30s.

The 25-year-old completed the warm-up before stepping away from the main group to join returning star Dayne Beams for a running session, during which both players seemed to move freely, with Crisp stretching out to show some of his renowned pace.

The consistent left-footer also pushed through change-of-direction and agility drills before participating in the less rigorous skill work.

Crisp produced a career-best 2018 season, finishing fourth in the club best and fairest and being ranked the No.1 small/medium defender in the Schick AFL Player Ratings – some feat given he has spent just a season-and-a-half in the backline.

The winner of the Gavin Brown Award as the Pies' best team player last year, Crisp is also believed to be on the cusp of signing a long-term contract extension, which would be a deserved reward for his rise to elite status.

Adding to the positivity, most of the Magpies' prime movers, along with others believed to have injury concerns, were involved in the two-hour skills-based session.

Most notably, Jordan De GoeyAdam TreloarDarcy MooreJamie ElliottDaniel Wells and Ben Reid completed the workout.

Knee victims Lynden Dunn and Matt Scharenberg are also increasing their workloads and range of movement.

Beams left the track after an hour, the bulk of which was spent running.

Gun ruckman Brodie Grundy is still restricted to gym work after fellow big man Jordan Roughead accidentally stood on his toe, but he could resume training next week.
