BOOM St Kilda youngster Max King appears to have escaped another long-term injury after initial scans on his leg failed to reveal any serious damage.

King landed awkwardly in a marking contest with former North Melbourne defender Daniel Nielson during the opening quarter of Sandringham's VFL clash against Werribee at Trevor Barker Oval on Sunday afternoon and went straight to the rooms to be assessed.

King was immediately sent for scans on the troublesome area and the initial prognosis is positive for the talented 18-year-old.

Saints football manager Simon Lethlean said King was unlikely to play next week but had avoided a more serious injury.

"The scan has shown no disruption to the graft so it looks like a positive story, hopefully," Lethlean told reporters.

"Obviously we were concerned based on his history, so it looks like, in my terminology, more of a jarred knee.

"There has been no disruption to the previous graft so it's pretty positive."

King had already kicked a goal during the opening quarter of the VFL clash and has been building some impressive form playing at the Saints' VFL affiliate this season.

Prior to Sunday's match, the Saints' first pick from last year's NAB AFL Draft and fourth overall had booted 10 goals from four games since returning from knee injury earlier this year.

"His parents were pretty emotional and concerned, as was he, as you would be," Lethlean said.

"He's a big part of our future … and travelling the right way."
