GREATER Western Sydney's three-match winning run hasn't exactly been good for coach Leon Cameron's heart rate, but he's happy to see his side passing some stern tests leading into the finals.

The Giants belted Collingwood by 47 points in round 18, then beat Port Adelaide on the road by a solitary point, ahead of Saturday's two-point triumph over Sydney at Giants Stadium.

His team hasn't played the brand of footy he's craving week to week, but Cameron said after the victory over the Swans that scrappy wins can do plenty for his players.

"It's been a bit nerve-racking, but it speaks volumes for our footy club," he said.

"We've been a lot better in the close games over the last three years and sensing the moment and delivering on it.

"You take those wins any way you can get them at this time of year and it's been outstanding for our club.

"It shows that there's good character amongst the group, so if you can bank them (the wins) and start to fix up the fundamentals, it puts you in a good spot at the end of the year.

"Playing in close games is great experience for us and ultimately, you're practicing during the year to get ready for finals.

"The last two weeks has been great practice."

Coleman Medal leader Jeremy Cameron missed the win over Sydney with calf tightness, but his coach said the issue is a minor one, and he remains a massive chance to face Hawthorn in Canberra next Friday night.

"He definitely shouldn't have played this weekend because we ran out of time (for him to recover)," he said.

"He'll put his hand up, but we've also got to be mindful that he's had a magnificent year and we don't want to lose him for an extended period of time."

In another boost for the Giants, star midfielder Josh Kelly (calf) and fellow onballer Matt de Boer (shoulder) could also be available for selection to face the Hawks.
