BRISBANE great and current NAB AFL Academy coach Luke Power looks headed for a coaching role at Carlton.

AFL.com.au has confirmed the Blues have sounded out Power in a senior development position for their coaching panel.

Although the three-time Brisbane premiership player has not officially departed from the AFL, it is understood discussions are underway for the move.

Power, who was formerly a coach at Greater Western Sydney having finished his career at the Giants, took on the AFL Academy coaching role at the end of 2016, following former Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson in the position.

He has been a well-regarded hands-on mentor for the Academy group and has also coached the Allies during the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

The 39-year-old has been central to the restructure of the national Academy program, with a bigger focus placed on state 'hubs'.

Carlton last month appointed David Teague as its senior coach after a successful period as its interim boss following the mid-season sacking of Brendon Bolton.

There is expected to be further change in the Carlton coaching ranks, with development coach Shane Watson to depart.
