SUPERSTAR Patrick Dangerfield's push to land Josh Jenkins at Geelong has hit overdrive, with Cats officials weighing up a move for the discarded Crow before Wednesday's trade deadline.

AFL.com.au understands the Cats were on Tuesday afternoon deliberating over the possibility of adding Jenkins as a bargain basement signing for another premiership tilt in 2020.

DEADLINE DAY LIVE Watch all the deals go down

Jenkins, 30, is prepared to take a pay cut on the final two years of his existing deal at the Crows which is valued at around $500,000-$600,000 per season.

With the Crows also willing to pay part of his wage, the Cats could be required to fork out as little as $200,000 a year for a player who has kicked 40 goals or more in five separate seasons.

Any transaction for Jenkins would involve a late pick or a shuffle of later selections – given the Crows' desire to clear his money off its books.

Jenkins' agent Paul Connors and Crows list boss Justin Reid were spotted in heavy conversation at AFL House on Tuesday afternoon as they plot a plan to find him a new home.

Collingwood could also present an option to house Jenkins next year, but it is understood it would need to clear another player in addition to James Aish's likely move to Fremantle

Jenkins, who is currently overseas, was told he wasn't required to attend his exit meeting at season's end after finishing the year in the SANFL.

It is believed Dangerfield has been driving the case to re-unite with his former Crows teammate at the Cats, with coach Chris Scott and list boss Stephen Wells slowly coming around to the idea.

The Cats showed they lacked key forward depth in the preliminary final against Richmond, throwing defender Lachie Henderson into attack to cover the suspended Tom Hawkins.

Henderson and fellow key tall Wylie Buzza remain without deals for next year.

It leaves the Cats with Hawkins, Esava Ratugolea and developing 20-year-old Nathan Kreuger as the only key forward options currently on the club's list for 2020.

Jenkins' prospective role at the Cats could see him working between attack and ruck, with the Cats also bullish on Ratugolea's potential as a No.1 ruckman for the future.

"It's a bit bemusing to be honest," Dangerfield said last week on Telstra AFL Trade Radio in relation to the lack of interest in Jenkins.

"I'm a little bit biased because I'm good mates with him, but I try and remove that hat and I just look at his form when he has played. I think he has a lot to offer at AFL level.

"He's a goal kicker … you've still got to kick a winning score to win games. He hits the scoreboard, he's a good contested mark and he's a really intelligent player.

"I think quite often we look at players for what they can't do rather than what they can do. I think a team would really benefit from him."

KEY DATES What's coming up next in the off-season?

Jack Steven is poised to arrive from St Kilda on Wednesday, with Jenkins potentially the Cats' second recruit this Telstra AFL Trade Period.

Jenkins, who played 11 matches for the Crows in 2019, has kicked 296 goals from 147 matches for the Crows.
