RUCKMAN Zac Smith is back at Gold Coast after the Suns sent pick 58 to Geelong.

AFL.com.au reported on Monday the 29-year-old will sign a two-year deal.

Smith joined the Cats at the end of 2015 and played a combined 44 games in his first two seasons at the club.

However, he has lined up in just six matches in 2018-19, with Rhys Stanley's emergence a key reason he struggled for a berth in the senior side.

Smith was previously traded to Geelong for picks No.49 and 53.

The Suns were on the search for depth in their big man department after the retirement of Tom Nicholls.

He will provide support for Gold Coast co-captain Jarrod Witts.

"Zac has a wealth of experience, is a terrific person and we’re excited to have him back at the club,” list manager Craig Cameron said.

"'Wittsy' has been brilliant over the past three seasons, however we thought it was important to add some depth to our ruck stocks and Zac will provide Jarrod with some healthy competition and, more importantly, cover where required."

Smith has managed 115 matches throughout his career since being part of the inaugural Suns side in 2011.
