GREATER Western Sydney will move up to pick No.4 in a major pick swap with Adelaide.

The Crows will receive the Giants' pick No.6 and their future first-round pick in the deal to slide back two spots.

The move will likely allow the Giants to select a player from the open draft pool before a bid comes on Academy gun Tom Green.

Melbourne could place a bid on Green at No.3, however they are also weighing up selecting ruckman/forward Luke Jackson at that selection.

The Giants will have the likes of speedy half-back Lachie Ash, rebounding defender Hayden Young and midfielder Sam Flanders in their sights at pick No.4.

The Swans, with pick No.5, could place a bid on Green, who is a Canberra local and has been linked to the Giants' Academy for several years.

But the move up the draft board from the Giants means they should be able to get 'inside' of the bid for Green, with the club hopeful of securing two of the best talents to add to their Grand Final list.

"During the initial trade period we had a number of discussions with clubs higher up the draft order canvassing opportunities and we’re very satisfied to be able to achieve this outcome today," Giants list manager Jason McCartney said.

"Moving up to pick four gives us plenty of options as we head into next week’s draft.

"It gives us the opportunity to pick up a high-quality player but it also puts us in a strong position when it comes to our considerations around potential Academy bids."

Clubs have to trade selections before Friday's deadline, before the ability to trade picks opens again once the draft starts on Wednesday night at Marvel Stadium.

"We saw the opportunity to maintain a top-six pick in a fairly even draft while accumulating more stock in the future as a massive positive for the club," Crows list manager Justin Reid said.

"Our strategy is focused on rejuvenating our playing list through the draft and having the ability to secure more elite talent next year with an additional first round pick is an exciting one."
