Travis Varcoe faces a delayed start to 2020 after a significant shoulder injury

VETERAN Magpie Travis Varcoe faces a delayed start to the season after suffering a significant shoulder injury at training on Monday.

The 31-year-old needs a reconstruction on the injured joint and will miss at least the first few rounds of the 2020 premiership season.

FULL FIXTURE Every round, every game

"The injury is disappointing for Trav, who has put a lot of work in to his pre-season training," Collingwood's performance and strategy manager, Marcus Wagner, said.

"While Trav will miss some early rounds of the season, we’ll have a better idea of his return date once he’s out of surgery."

Varcoe has played 83 games for the Pies since joining the club from Geelong ahead of the 2015 season. He managed 16 games in 2019 but failed to earn selection in Collingwood's two finals.

He signed a one-year deal for 2020 in November last year.
