HAWTHORN was dealt an early blow in Thursday night's Marsh Community Series loss to St Kilda at RSEA Park with Ben McEvoy hobbling off in the opening two minutes with a corked thigh.

The big man, who lined up centre half-back on St Kilda forward Max King, left the field in discomfort after pulling up from an early chase as the ball went inside the Saints' attacking arc.

King went on to mark unopposed but shanked his first shot at goal and it sailed into the post.

McEvoy went straight to the back row of the Hawks' bench and put ice on the side of his right thigh, before being ruled out for the rest of the match.
