YOUNG midfielder Will Hams has re-signed with Essendon for another year in a show of support from the Bombers after he failed to play a game in 2014. 

Hams, 21, who made played the only two games of his career in 2013 after making his debut against the Swans in round 10 that year, has battled a hip injury all season. 

He said he would use his struggles as motivation for the coming pre-season. 

"I'm thrilled to be staying at Essendon. They were the club that gave me an opportunity so I want to be able to try and give something back," Hams said.

 

"This year was disappointing in terms of my hip injury, but everyone at the club has been incredibly supportive and I am working really hard on getting my body right over the pre-season."

Coach James Hird said Hams had shown enough in his brief opportunity at the highest level to convince the club he was worth another contract. 

"Will is a terrific young kid and we think he has a lot of potential," Hird said.

 

"When he played in 2013, he showed that he has a ferocious attack on the ball and strong endurance. We think he can develop into an important player for the team."

Hams' re-signing follows the news that senior teammate Ben Howlett has re-committed to the club after a period of uncertainty about his playing future.
