RENEWED confidence in the state of his troublesome knee has St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt wanting to play on beyond 2015.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season, which will be his 15th in the AFL.

But after missing one game over the past two years, Riewoldt believes he has worked out how best to manage his body and isn't thinking about retiring next season.

"I'm pretty keen to get something done with the club looking beyond that," Riewoldt told AFL.com.au, after winning his sixth club best and fairest on Friday night.

"That's in their hands.

"I've played 43 out of 44 games in the last two years and the one I missed was rested.

"I feel good – I feel like I can go for another two or three."

Riewoldt confirmed his manager was in early talks with the Saints on extending his current deal.

He said the fact he played every game this season – a feat he hadn't managed since 2006 – had enhanced his belief in his current routine.

This year, he didn't make any dramatic changes to his week-to-week recovery but made sure he was in the water every night, visited a chiropractor three times a week and had lots of physiotherapy.

"I think you just learn and with experience comes trial and error and we've worked out a pretty good routine that held up really well this year," he said.

"To be able to play every game was certainly something in the pre-season I didn't think I'd be able to achieve.

"I trained a little bit more this year and I think maybe that continuity helped me a little bit rather than having a stop-start season.

"I dropped a little bit of weight so those things might have all combined to allowed me to play every game.

"There's a lot that goes into it but you need a bit of luck as well and I had that this year."

Meanwhile, the Saints will embark on a "historic campaign" from Monday where they will announce about 10 contract extensions of young players.

It is believed recently drafted trio Jack Billings, Luke Dunstan and Blake Acres are among those in the process of recommitting, along with Jack Newnes and Josh Saunders.

Saints CEO Matt Finnis said the campaign, which is expected to reveal one recommitted player each day starting next week, celebrated the commitment of the club's new generation.

"The manner in which they have responded to Richo's leadership and vision has been incredibly heartening," Finnis said.

"More than that, the manner in which they are committing to the club and one another is absolutely inspiring.

"This year we will not be playing finals but by the end of September, our club will have announced the re-signing of an unprecedented number of players.

"Players who are determined to take the journey to success and players who are determined to share that journey with the people who support them and allow them to make it possible."

Rookies Eli Templeton and Darren Minchington are expected to be offered senior contracts while veteran defender Sam Fisher will play on with a one-year deal.

A decision is yet to be made on the future of 30-year-old forward Adam Schneider.

James Gwilt and Clint Jones joined Trent Dennis-Lane and Sam Dunell in being delisted last week.

Lenny Hayes and Beau Maister have retired while Terry Milera has requested a trade home to South Australia.
