THE WESTERN Bulldogs have used their compensation for trading Adam Cooney to Essendon to swoop on Swans rookie Shane Biggs just minutes before the NAB AFL Trade Period deadline.
The Dogs traded pick No.37 – received from Essendon for Brownlow medallist Cooney earlier on Thursday – to the Swans for Biggs and pick No.39.
Biggs, a rebounding defender, played six games in three seasons at the Swans since he was taken with pick No.13 in the 2012 rookie draft.
The 187cm backman played three games last year, including the semi-final against Carlton and preliminary final against Fremantle.
He managed three games in 2014, highlighted by a 24-disposal performance in round 21 against St Kilda.
Bulldogs list manager Jason McCartney expected the 23-year-old would see more opportunities at the Whitten Oval.
"To be able to manoeuvre some picks around today was a good result and Shane Biggs comes in, who's a player that's been at the Swans for three years now (in) a really good, strong football program and we think he'll add to our team," McCartney said as he left Etihad Stadium.
Biggs' trade to Whitten Oval was packaged with the Swans' pick No.39 – received as compensation after free agent Nick Malceski joined Gold Coast.
