THE AFL held a media conference at 8.15pm on the 27th of August 2013 to announce the penalties handed to Essendon over charges of bringing the game into disrepute.

The announcement came after two days of negotiations at AFL House between League and Essendon officials over the Bombers' administration of its 2012 supplements program.

The program was the focus of a seven-month joint investigation by the AFL and the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA).

ASADA handed the AFL an interim report on its investigation. The Bombers, along with coach James Hird, senior assistant coach Mark Thompson, football manager Danny Corcoran and club doctor Bruce Reid were all charged with bringing the game into disrepute as a result.
