GREATER Western Sydney will not be taking former Collingwood forward Alan Didak as a delisted free agent or in the pre-season draft.

Speculation that the 2010 premiership player might be in the frame for the Giants surged when he met with the club on Sunday.

Didak, who will turn 31 in February and has played just 16 games in the past two seasons, was also subjected to a medical examination.

The Giants had until 2pm on Monday to recruit Didak as a delisted free agent, and could also have drafted him as a rookie on Wednesday, but the club tweeted early on Monday afternoon that he would not be selected.

After battling injury and struggling to displace younger teammates, Didak played just five games this year, but was in the team for the last three matches of the Pies' campaign.

A best and fairest winner and dual All Australian, Didak played 218 games and kicked 274 goals for Collingwood.

In August, former teammate Paul Licuria told AFL.com.au that Didak should play on in 2014.

"'Dids' is such a classy player that he only needs to get the ball 10 times and he's going to hurt you.

"His decision-making and kicking is still as sharp as ever, he still reads the ball well, and his opponents need to respect him so you need to put a good opponent on him."

Fairfax Media also reported that Geelong great Matthew Scarlett, who retired at the end of 2012, rejected the offer of a joint playing and coaching role with the Giants.
