WEST Coast is edging closer to getting a full compliment of players back from injury as it battles its way back from a 1-3 start to the season, with ruckman Nic Naitanui a chance to return in round seven or eight.

Coach John Worsfold said 'relief' was too strong a word for his feelings over the return of injured players, but admitted to being excited to get his troops back.

Naitanui's recovery from a groin injury continues to progress although Worsfold was cagey when asked how far the ruckman was into full training.

He did hint, however, that Naitanui could return around the weekend of the WAFL state bye.

The bye is on Saturday May 11, which would put Naitanui in line to either play against the Brisbane Lions in round seven at the Gabba, or against North Melbourne in round eight at Patersons Stadium.

Captain and full-back Darren Glass was expected to play against Port Adelaide, Worsfold said, despite damaging his right shoulder in last Saturday's loss to Carlton.

"I spoke to Glassy on Monday about not playing him if he wasn't going to be right, and not carrying an injury for an extended period, but from how he felt on Monday he was a really good chance.

"He's still got to train today and do everything to show that he's 100 per cent but the way he's talking is that he's 100 per cent."

Both Matt Rosa and Beau Waters are a chance to return this week for the Eagles vital clash with Pert Adelaide, but it is likely Rosa will play a second game in the WAFL along with Sharrod Wellingham who returns from his ankle injury.

"Matt's (Rosa) proven to us over a few years that he's in our best team going forward, so we're keen for him to get up to his best form and show that he can work his way back into the team.

"We're weighing up whether the best thing for him is to bring him straight in or give him another run. At this stage leaning towards he would benefit more from a full hit out in the WAFL."

Wellingham will line-up for East Perth on Thursday after a pre-season trampoline mishap saw him miss the opening four rounds.

"He's pretty fit. So this hit out is just to give him some real good match practice. Providing he moves and recovers from the game as well as we expect, he'll be up for selection in the next one.

"He's keen to play. He just loves playing footy. He's looking forward to getting out and playing with the guys, because that's why he came here."
