RICHMOND has allocated jumper numbers to its new recruits with rookie Todd Banfield taking over the No.22 once worn by former captain and 1980 premiership rover Barry Rowlings.

The former Brisbane Lion, who was snared with the Tigers' first selection in Wednesday's NAB AFL Rookie Draft, takes over the number vacated by retired midfielder Sam Lonergan.

Former Carlton ruckman Shaun Hampson, who arrived via trade in October, has been handed No.16, which was vacated by Luke McGuane and once worn by another former captain, Bryan Wood.

Former Greater Western Sydney midfielder Anthony Miles has been handed No. 19, while ex-Port Adelaide hard nut Matt Thomas will wear No. 26.

Richmond's policy with new draftees is to make them earn their stripes before they are offered numbers with a rich tradition at the club.

Ben Lennon, who was recruited with pick No.12 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, will wear No.35, which was vacated by Matt White.

The Tigers’ second selection, Nathan Gordon, has taken No. 39, vacated by Tom Derickx, with the club's final choice Sam Lloyd to wear No.42, which was free in 2013.
