She already holds Australia’s top job, and now the Hon. Julia Gillard, MP, Prime Minister of Australia, also holds the number one female ticket at the Western Bulldogs. A keen supporter and long-time Altona resident, Prime Minister Gillard was presented with her number one guernsey by Club President David Smorgon OAM, alongside Senior Coach Rodney Eade and new Captain Matthew Boyd, in front of members and supporters at the recent Community Festival & Family Day.

Following the presentation at Whitten Oval, Prime Minister Gillard shared her delight on social media site, Twitter: “A big thanks to the Western Bulldogs for making me their number 1 female ticket holder. It means a lot to me. See you at our Grand Final! JG”

Joining the Prime Minister was former Club President, Peter Gordon, who was also honoured as the number one male ticket holder for Season 2011. Growing up in West Footscray, Mr Gordon is recognised for his tireless fight to ‘Save the Dogs’ from merging with the Fitzroy Football Club in the 1989 Fightback Campaign.

The PM and Mr Gordon now join Dr Susan Alberti AO, Club Patron, to complete the Club’s top trio.

President David Smorgon said that the Club takes these positions very seriously.  In making the selection, the Board of Directors considers a range of factors and reviews a shortlist of people who have contributed to the community and who are true Red, White and Blue through and through.
