FORMER St Kilda forward Andrew McQualter has been added to the  "permission to train" list and will attempt to revive his career with Gold Coast.

McQualter, a defensive forward, was a member of the Saints' Grand Final teams in 2009 and 2010. He played 89 games for the Saints since joining the club in 2005, however, struggled to have an impact in 2011, managing just five games.

He is among 17 players who have been added to the "permission to train" list in the lead-up to the pre-season and rookie drafts next month.

The players include former Bomber Anthony Long (who will again train with Essendon), former Hawk and Saint Zac Dawson (who will train with Fremantle), former Magpie Brad Dick (also Freo) and Hobart footballer Aaron Hall (who will train with Gold Coast).

Ex-North Melbourne midfielder Ed Lower will train with Port Adelaide. Since joining the Roos in 2006, Lower played 46 games and kicked 16 goals.

He was originally recruited from SANFL club Norwood and his twin brother Nick played for the Power before making the most of a second opportunity at  Fremantle this year.

North Melbourne is assessing talent from its affiliate clubs North Ballarat and Werribee. Three Roosters - Marcus Darmody, Liam Hoy and Tate Oliver - will train with the Roos, as will Brad Mangan, Will Martinello and Sean Tighe from Werribee.

East Perth's Freddie Clutterbuck will train with Melbourne along with Carl Nicolson (Glenelg), Fletcher Roberts (Sandringham Dragons) and Jai Sheahan (from the Geelong Falcons); while Turvey Park's Harry Cunningham (from Wagga) will train with the Sydney Swans.
