The West Coast Eagles have kept their slim finals hopes alive after they contemptuously disposed of the Western Bulldogs by 49 points in a scrappy game of football at Subiaco Oval on Sunday afternoon.

The 15.16 (106) to 8.9 (57) win in came under leaden skies and with a howling wind blowing and took West Coast to nine wins and nine losses, a game and percentage outside the eight in tenth spot.

The margin eclipses the 44-point victory against Essendon two weeks ago as their biggest win of the season.

The lead got out to 52 points in the third term before the Dogs booted three consecutive goals to rein it back in a little, but West Coast always had it under control.

Andrew McDougall and Phil Matera each kicked three for West Coast, while Ben Harrison was the only multiple goal-kicker for the Bulldogs.

As usual, it was the West Coast midfield that did the damage, with Chad Fletcher, Daniel Kerr, Chad Morrison, Michael Braun, Damien Adkins, Beau Waters, Sam Butler and Chris Judd all gathering lots of the ball.

For the Bulldogs, former skipper Scott West was clearly the best in his 250th match of AFL football, with Mitchell Hahn, Brad Johnson and Nathan Eagleton also working hard.

Fletcher had 18 possessions to half time and finished with 30 as the hosts kicked four goals and then five to put the screws on the Dogs who could just manage two in each term.

The Western Bulldogs started the scoring with a 60 metre bomb from ex-Tiger Ben Harrison that bounced through, but Phil Matera then stole the ball as the Bulldogs brought it in from a point and kicked truly from 15 metres.

Andrew McDougall then marked at 45 for his first, but Harrison snapped truly from deep in the right pocket to again get the visitors back on even terms.

Matera then marked the ball on the goal-line after Daniel Kerr belted it in from 60 out and kicked the resulting goal from half a metre and then Darren Glass got a 50 metre penalty and kicked it from the square to give West Coast an 11-point lead at quarter time.

Matthew Robbins got the first goal of the term for the Bulldogs, but West Coast then kicked the next four with Adkins kicking a couple, McDougall grabbing his second and Chris Judd getting loose and kicking one from the square.

Patrick Bowden snapped one from 35 that was shepherded through before Daniel Chick ended up with the ball as he steamed across the arc and converted from 40 out to give West Coast a 32-point lead at the long break.

Things were looking grim for the Dogs after West Coast kicked the first three after half-time, the first to Fletcher after he marked a kick-out, but the Dogs kicked the last three of the quarter to only allow the lead to increase by a point.

After the match, West Coast coach John Worsfold said he was happy with the win.

"Fairly satisfied," he said.

"We came here to play. As I talked about during the week, we just wanted to play our style of footy that we've been working hard on, and I'm pretty happy with the way the boys went about it.

You want to win by the biggest margin every week, regardless of percentage at any given time, so the focus was still to keep playing good footy like I thought we'd played in the first half."

Bulldogs coach Peter Rodhe took some solace from the fact his side didn’t concede in the second half, but said they were overwhelmed by West Coast’s midfield.

“We had periods of the game I thought we were pretty good,” he said

“I thought we kept having a dip all day. In the end I thought we didn’t have enough people to get their hands on the ball enough.

“There were some positives there and I was pretty pleased with some of our young blokes.”

Rohde said his players also made too many disposal errors and agreed that the Bulldogs were a team low on confidence.
