FORMER Hawthorn recruiting and list manager Chris Pelchen has been named as head of football at St Kilda, the club announced on Monday night.

Pelchen will be responsible for leadership and strategic direction across all areas of the Saints' football department.

Pelchen, widely acknowledged as playing a key role in building Hawthorn's 2008 premiership team, brings with him a wealth of experience after lengthy stints with both the Hawks and Port Adelaide.

Pelchen ended his role at Hawthorn in June.

St Kilda CEO Michael Nettlefold said the appointment would help the club grow in an increasingly competitive market.

"Over the last three years, St Kilda has been undertaking significant change and this appointment continues that direction of growth and improvement," Nettlefold said.

"We're building strong foundations at St Kilda to ensure we are well placed to meet the challenges of the future in the AFL.

"Chris has the experience to help our club not only adapt in a rapidly changing environment, but thrive."
