The AFL has today announced the fixture for Round 18, the final round of the 2020 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.
The round will begin on Thursday night, September 17 as North Melbourne host the West Coast Eagles at Metricon Stadium, followed by a Friday night match at The Gabba between St Kilda and GWS Giants.
Collingwood vs Port Adelaide at The Gabba on Monday night, September 21, will be the final match of the home and away season – one that will likely determine the make-up of the final eight seedings. It will be broadcast live on Channel 7.
Round 18 contains a spread of matches across the round that will influence top eight ladder positions while providing suitable days' break for all clubs (minimum five days) and particularly potential finalists (minimum six days) in the lead in.
AFL General Manager of Clubs and Broadcasting Travis Auld said the last round of the season was the final piece of the puzzle in a complex season of scheduling.
"These are unprecedented times and the fixture this year has had to respond to and reflect the unique challenges presented across season." Mr Auld said.
"On behalf of the AFL I want to thank all clubs, the ALFPA, the umpires, venues, governments and our broadcast and commercial partners for their understanding and support throughout a season that has required a high degree of collaboration and agility, and one which has seen our viewership reach great heights.
"Our fans on-going support this season through membership, attendance and broadcast has been simply remarkable."
Mr Auld said the BYE following the Round 18 matches helped in allowing flexibility to optimise the scheduling of Round 18 as well as giving teams who make the 2020 Toyota AFL Finals Series extra time to recover.
Matches will be broadcast live by the Seven Network, Foxtel and via Kayo and the official AFL Live App thanks to Telstra.
The AFL would like to acknowledge the continued support of all industry stakeholders throughout this process as well as Optimal Planning Solutions for their assistance in the construction of the fixture.
