Hawthorn rookie-listed player Luke Breust is set to debut for the Hawks in Sunday’s Blue Ribbon Cup clash against St Kilda.
Breust was promoted to the senior list earlier this week as a long-term injury replacement after three years at the Club.
Hawthorn’s General Manager - Football Operations Mark Evans said the decision to promote Breust came after impressive performances at the Box Hill Hawks, Hawthorn's VFL affiliate.
“Breust got close to senior selection on a number of occasions last year, but over the last few months at VFL level he’s been super impressive and certainly earned his call-up to the senior side,” Evans said.
“He’s worked hard at his game over the three year period.
“He’s mostly played forward but can also run through the midfield and has on occasion been deployed in defence.”
Coming from a rugby league background, Breust played both League and AFL from a young age but turned his focus to AFL from age 14.
Breust’s cousin Trent Barrett represented Australia and NSW (state of origin) in Rugby League and won the Dally M medal for best player in the NRL in 2000.
Bruest will be the first player to play AFL from Temora in country NSW.
