LONG-SERVING Brisbane Lions player and official Craig Lambert has thrown his support behind Michael Voss after a week of heavy criticism for the Lions coach.
In the third and final year of his contract, Voss has come under fire with the Lions' starting the season 0-6, with former Carlton captain Mark Maclure calling for his sacking.
However, Lambert, who was a Brisbane Bears best and fairest and long-time teammate of Voss, said that was the last thing the Lions should do.
"I've had a lot to do with Michael, I knew him as an 18-year-old, and under pressure, that's when he's at his best, so I'd definitely stick with Michael," Lambert said.
"Under pressure he normally finds a way to win so I think he's the right person."
Lambert is now Greater Western Sydney's welfare officer but said he was still keeping an eye on Lions games.
He said he was disappointed to see their poor start to the season but thought they were not far from changing fortunes.
"They've been unlucky with three or four games they should have won," he said.
"You hope they get a win so they can start to believe. Those narrow losses, [plus] losing Jon Brown and [Brent] Staker really hurt them in round one, so I hope they can get a win because if they can get a win, they start to believe and I reckon they're not a bad side."
Lambert is in Brisbane with the GWS side as they prepare for Saturday's NEAFL match against the Lions reserves at Griffin Park, Coorparoo.
