Pickering met Geelong officials on Thursday as the club made its final pitch to retain the services of the Brownlow Medallist, who has been offered a massive deal to join Gold Coast for its inaugural season.
Ablett did not attend the meeting.
Pickering noted that the Suns had until October 7 to secure uncontracted players under their recruiting rules.
He said last weekend that neither Geelong nor the Gold Coast was leading the race to secure Ablett.
"Everyone thinks they know what's going on, but they don't."
Pickering acknowledged that Ablett was struggling with the decision and said he had done nothing to steer his client towards making his choice, but had outlined the possible pros and cons of re-signing with Geelong and crossing to the competition's new franchise.
Ablett, 26, has played 192 matches with the Cats, including the 2007 and 2009 premierships.
