JARRYD Roughead and Jordan Lewis were named as vice-captains to Luke Hodge at Hawthorn's season launch dinner at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne on Friday night.

Hodge announced the pair's elevation to the roles in his address to the crowd with Tom Murphy, Brad Sewell and Lance Franklin also added to the leadership group.

Hawks players and coaches were asked to vote on the club's leadership group and Hodge applauded the bold decision to go with youth.

"We could have gone the easy way and just nominated guys who have been either leaders at our club or at other clubs," Hodge said.

"We've got blokes like Sammy Mitchell, Chance Bateman, Shaun Burgoyne from Port Adelaide and also Cam Bruce from Melbourne, but as a group we thought the best thing for our club going forward would be to nominate guys that are probably going to lead the club for the next five to 10 years."

Hodge replaced Mitchell in the top job at the end of last season. The 2008 premiership skipper is intent on devoting more time to his young family with his wife expecting twins any day.

Roughead and Lewis, both 24, have each played 125 games, including the 2008 Grand Final, since being taken second and seventh respectively in the 2004 NAB AFL Draft.

"Jarryd and Jordan are well-respected leaders within our club, have shown great leadership for several years and have stepped it up to another level over this pre-season," Hodge said.

"[But] at Hawthorn we understand that leadership is not left to the three of us, we have an older, experienced group and younger, maturing guys coming through."

Friday's launch also saw four new inductees into the Hawks' hall of fame honoured.

Brendan Edwards and Ian Law, both members of the club's inaugural premiership side in 1961, spoke warmly of their honour at being included in such elite company.

W. Beau Wallace, who held the position of head trainer for 46 years, and Alec Albiston, a two-time best and fairest winner at the club, were inducted into the hall of fame posthumously.

Jarryd Roughead is a $288,800 forward in the Toyota AFL Dream Team competition.

Jordan Lewis is a $362,600 midfielder in the Toyota AFL Dream Team competition.
